Wretch 32' Breaks Silence With Mini-Ep 'Moments Of Silence'

Acclaimed British rapper and songwriter Wretch 32 engages across three generations in his latest surprise offering a mini ep of sorts Moments of Silence to remind us that it takes a village.

Originally Moments of Silence were posts published on the North London rapper’s Instagram reels however in anticipation of a new beginning he has released them on all streaming platforms.

An honest expression Wretch embodies the perceived thoughts of a member of the Windrush generation on ‘2 Minutes Silence' about the ones that came after.

Positioning himself in the role of the wise elder he introspectively and thoughtfully intitally praises them for their resistance and for navigating the state of the world that was left for them before criticizing some of their decisions.

He raps “We had to walk so you can run/So I don't wanna hear 'bout you're fightin' for any slums” before continuing “There's a war goin' on outside and it's my grandson's/ They frighten the neighbours with all their handguns/The government send the police in to kill the bad man/It's funny 'cause they fightin' for places they both abandoned.”

Pausing for a moment, ‘I minute of silence' is told from Wretch 32’s perspective as he comments on the loss of young life happening in London and other inner Cities as children in the street die. It’s a powerful reminder of not just leaving the blame at the feet of parents, but also empathising collective responsibility of the community.

Whilst, ‘3 minutes of silence ( dear Boris)’ is a direct critique of ex-MP Boris Johnson and the British government for the state of things such as the social, political and racial injustice felt He styles out on the beat saying Boris, you ain't felt the heat, or had a plate in the kitchen /We should sub' you off for Rashford, and make him play your position/He's more united Little more, upfront, with it, you're more divided.”

“The world is so loud that sometimes you have to add to the noise with silence, we all need to stop, pause, listen, think and reset, I use these moments to do just that”, says Wretch 32.

I hope that the holes that I pick in society can be used to rebuild the community…”
