What You Missed At Primavera Sound Barcelona

Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Barcelona at Parc Del Fòrum, Primavera Sound has solidified its reputation as one of Europe's premier music festivals. It is one of the largest and most-attended music festivals in Europe and the biggest in the Mediterranean. The festival's image was originally oriented around indie rock, but in recent years has seen a larger presence of genres such as hip hop, electronic dance music and pop. The 2024 edition boasted an eclectic line-up featuring the enchanting Lana Del Rey, SZA, Clipse, Deftones, Disclosure, Jai Paul and so many more as well as a slurry of Spanish acts.

Amongst the lively buzz of excited festival-goers, sunshine spilled over Barcelona as we tucked into Primavera. We were able to sink our teeth into performances by classic artists such as Pulp, Beth Gibbons from popular triphop band Portishead, Vampire Weekend, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib and Deftones who took the stage and it was one to feed our inner angsty teenager. One standout set was none other than Californian band Deftones who had an extremely packed out Amazon Music stage. Performing some of their greatest and most popular hits such as 'Change (In The House Of Flies)' and classics from their 1997 breakout album Around The Fur such as 'My Own Summer (Shove It)' or culture classics like 'Sextape', the energy was electrifying and one that one couldn't have missed. Playing into the early hours of the morning was worldwide DJ sensation Peggy Gou who graced the stage with a riviting performance that couldn't have left anyone standing still.

Electrifying and nostalgic, Jai Paul played all his greatest hits over the last 13 years. Immersing the audience in his otherworldly sound - his uncanny vocal performance, synergy of the band and solemn dedication of the crowd brings the artists sporadic appearances full circle. The earthly visuals and moody back lighting design set just right to maintain the mystique. A cult favourite and a once in a lifetime experience… as it is Jai Paul after all.

Troy Sivan was a standout set, his power pop anthems charging the crowd for the stellar line-up ahead - was one where revellers had no choice but to dance. Bringing his infamous dance stylings to the stage, Sivan was pure energy and good vibes, giving us pop-prince -homoerotica. Not too fussy with only his best backing dancers and perfectly on brand with a little soft-sleaze thrown in the mix, Sivan’s lightening set was a must see to round off primavera

Following into the second and third days of the festival, the Estrella Damm stage was full to the brim to bask in the angelic presence of Lana Del Rey. Featuring incredible backing singers, a corps de ballet and killer setlist, Miss Rey opened with the ultimate classic track 'Without You' from her debut album Born To Die, moulding tracks across all her eras, making an emotional performance for all.

More artists making an impact across the festival as a whole included Mitski and SZA who both performed beautifully even though it rained tremendously. But that didn't kill the vibe of the crowd who danced and swayed away, reminiscing of their younger years through heartfelt melodies.

Check out the official gallery of images of some of the artists mentioned and make sure you secure tickets for 2025. It'll definitely be a big one.
