The Versace SS25 show was held four days ago and I frankly needed to mull over the collection more than usual to figure out the key takeaways as well as my own views.
Donatella Versace talked about bringing back positivity into fashion with this collection which incidentally references her own work when she was heading Versus Versace. The SS25 collection has been derived from the Versus SS97 show which actually reminds one of the 70s. She managed to go even further into the “Me Decade” with the inclusion of denim this time.
Opting for a more muted colour palette this time, the brand paid homage to Donatella’s quintessential habit of pairing clashing patterns. It felt less of Gianni’s boldly sexy & glamorous Versace and that was a new move from her; focusing more on her old collections than his. Indeed one may say this collection wasn't really something showcasing the DNA of the brand and legacy he left but, seeing as how Donatella herself led Versus, it was definitely a part of what the Versace house stood for.
The perfume bottle shaped accessories (I spied an ode to Versace's Bright Crystal & Yellow Diamond) , the new Versace tote bag, the star studded modeling squad aided by the return of Gigi Hadid and the guests sitting front row all contributed to amplify the collection presented.
This was a collection loaded with not just commercial pieces that fit into current trends of boho chic and librarian core with an extremely sweet baby blue, lilac, mustard, brown palette but also creating a gold sequined strapless dress using a 3D printer with its hourglass shape programmed by a machine. A technological advancement by the brand but was it for the better or worse is yet to be determined. This was a fun & frivolous showcasing by Donatella as she had promised, reminding us yet again of the cyclicity of fashion.
