For Fall/Winter 2022, Tory Burch explores and celebrates the many facets of the New York woman.

This season’s presentation from Tory Burch was a love letter to New York and the women that inhabit it. Painting the portraits of these fleeting individual characters is a collection that boasts contrast and duality in all aspects, from the construction and silhouette to the prints and accessories.
For Fall/Winter ‘22, Burch took a particular interest in shape, geometry, and convertibility, with each look serving as a juxtaposition of opulence and comfort. If the tailoring has been emphasised this season, it is in equal parts met by a focus on wearability. The playful approach to silhouette building, with its wide, sculpted shapes and contrasting form-fitted layers, ultimately result in a quirky accentuation of the body. This, paired with a very vocal, Nathalie du Pasquier-inspired colour palette, elegantly blend together to create a modern gamine look.
However this season’s Tory Burch woman is far from naive, and the intricacy of the hand-finished pieces attest to that. If the colour composition and silhouettes are playful, the construction and fabrication of the garments is far from simplistic. In an expert blending of daywear and activewear, Burch manipulates high-calibre fabrics to achieve a more casual aesthetic, illustrated by the use of fil coupé lurex, washed in order to appear more ‘lived-in’. The presence of hand-beaded 3-D embellishments also work to elevate jersey pieces, creating a soft and sophisticated evening piece.
In keeping with the theme of this season’s collection, Tory Burch continued her ongoing tradition of giving back to the city. This year’s contribution took form in a donation to the New Yorker hotel’s restoration fund, aimed at repairing the hotel’s iconic red sign. The sign’s restoration was completed just in time for the show, and featured a special addition for the event; an illuminated projection of “New Yorker <3 Tory” on the façade.
