Departing from his typical rap sound, which can be found on previous releases and his self-produced debut EP Lost In Translation, cinematic and moving rap, Proph experiments with an intimate R&B record on 'Trust Fall'.
Composed from a minimalistic guitar rift and purposely underproduced, there is an emphasis and vulnerability on Proph that sees himself occupying uncharted waters in terms of lyrical content and sound. He sings "Don't fall baby, shit ain't feeling like it's supposed to baby / I wrote you, don't know the streets but you know me and I'm cold too baby."
Thriving, he crafts a track that is sensuous and sensitive, flirting with his love interest as well as a new audience. The track deeply looks into the romantic experience, sharing intimate details as we witness Proph work out the extent of his feelings. However, once he realised this, he explored the difficulty of the new challenge.
The new sound doesn’t take anything from his storytelling ability the usual slick flow and ebb missing but Proph still fits his narratives into a 3-minute track.
The accompanying music video is beautifully shot in black and white, favouring intimate close-up shots of Proph and his love interest interacting transitioning from late-night dinners to emotive shots of Proph in the rain.
Recently the Londoner performed on the BET Hip Hop Awards 2023 cypher, along the likes of Jordy and others who were personally chosen by Ghetts.
Proph is scheduled to perform on the 30th of November at Clash’s Next Up Showcase alongside the likes of Cristale, Slew and more.
