Sliksyd’s Years Of Tears

From BySlik to Years Of Tears to Osbatt. Syd has been quietly making a scene. The imprint of Skeletons and skulls on denim and leather has earned him recognition from the likes of Lil Baby, Skepta, Trippie Red and Floyd Mayweather. But most importantly through his discord server, he has built his creative empire. Here, next-generation trailblazers of rappers, and designers have connected.

He has stayed true to his Zimbabwe roots through selvedge denim. Through the pieces, we see remnants and references to Japanese streetwear, e.g. Bape, Billionaire Boys and Evisu. Something Syd has been candid about sharing and honouring, especially their boldness and their link with Pharrell. Reading interviews and articles on Syd, what stuck with me the most was his extensive knowledge of brands he admired. He has been able to identify links between old and new Billionaire Boys and Bape, Supreme and Fucking Awesome. There is something intimate about this process because learning about stories of collections lays a foundation. This foundation is where future inspiration is birthed.

It is no secret his drops have become a battleground where pieces like the Osbatt Flying Batt sell out instantly. A favourite piece has been the Flying bats genes. The bat iconography has allowed him to christen his marriage between gothic and underground streetwear. While continuing to blaze a trail, Silk has made sure to incorporate the Years and Tears of his heritage and family. We can’t wait to see what else he’s got cooking in the kitchen.
