Skepta Pays Tribute To The Iconic Amy Winehouse On‘Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy)’

No stranger to shaping youth discourse and sub-culture Mercury Prize winning British-Nigerian rapper, producer and artist Skepta once again, looks to find new ways of expression through the past.

Setting the tone on his latest offering, a soulful atmospheric hypnotic cut, ‘Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy)’, Skepta submerges us into something that can only be described as an spiritual awakening.

The uplifting track samples the late Amy Winehouse’s 2006 single “Tears Dry On Their Own” allowing Amy’s distinctly haunting vocals to speak to a new generation widening her influence, against the thumping base, and electronical synths.

Released through his and fellow BBK member Jammer’s Más Tiempo label, The pair have steadily crafted their own space in the world of electronical music over the last few years.

Only launched last April, the track embodies the approach of the house music label by being inventive and forward thinking.

The track has been previewed in during the summer in various sets at Arcadia, Glastonbury and Ushuaia but has been officially released now after gaining the permission of the Amy Winehouse Foundation
