Sekou's Return Is A Sombre Affair On ‘let go of me slowly’

The youngest ever BRIT Rising Star nominate Sekou releases his second single of the year. Aching from the breakdown of a romantic relationship, the singer-songwriter pens a heartfelt and awe-inspiring ballad in the form of 'let go of me slowly' with the help of regular collaborators Yakob and Mary, who co-wrote the emotionally driven ‘Better Man’.

Believing that there is power in simplicity, a stripped-back production composed of a solo piano effortlessly captures the mood of the lyricism as Sekou longs and yearns.

Living in conflict, he urges his ex-partner to remember the good times fondly in hopes of something bitter-sweet. Knowing that the end is near, he pleads to things to end softly.

Melancholic, raw and truthful, he sings the hook “Can you promise say you’ll remember my name/say that you’ll remember the way it felt to hold me even if you won’t please/tell me must I remember the pain/ is that all you’ll leave me with/ if your letting go please let me go slowly.”

The track was released via NWS/Island Records and follows ‘Crying’. When speaking about ‘let go of me slowly’, he says “this song was inspired by a time in my life when I was going through something, and I didn’t know how to express my feelings about it.

It took some time but I went back, I re-read the old texts, and I was finally able to put the words down on paper - I knew I needed to be honest. It’s freeing - and it’s supposed to be about getting things off your chest and removing that heavy weight from your shoulders that can sometimes still be there after a relationship breaks down.”

Most recently Sekou joined American artist Renée Rapp on the UK and European part of her ‘Snow Hard Feelings’ tour. Whilst also planning his own headliner an exclusive One Night Only show on May 13th at Omeara London.

Refreshing and genuine, this latest offering demonstrates why Sekou is one of the most exciting and deeply feeling musicians inhabiting the UK at the moment.
