Saucony Celebrates Iconic Trainer 80 with Tribute to London Communities: Balamii and Your Friendly Runners

Saucony, the famous global running lifestyle brand, has commemorated the return of its iconic Trainer 80 by paying tribute to two thriving London communities: Balamii radio station and community running organisation Your Friendly Runners (YFR). These two groups are representative of the brand's core values of unity, creativity, and innovation, and they have both played a significant role in forming modern culture.

Since its founding in 1978, Saucony has been closely associated with running culture, producing footwear for athletes, fashionistas, and more. Whether at the starting line of a marathon or in the centre of a fashion or music event, the brand's motto, "Run As One," promotes a sense of community. This spirit is embodied by Balamii and YFR, who use their platforms to bring people together through their love of music, art, design, and running.

Balamii's James Browning emphasised the significance of the relationship, adding, “This project with Saucony represents everything Balamii stands for – community and talent,” He goes on to say “We are proud to have brought together these incredible emerging artists for a campaign that celebrates heritage style for a new generation.” Meanwhile, Matt Horrocks of YFR emphasised the group's support for Saucony, stating, "It felt natural to feature in the launch of the Trainer 80, a true OG style that still resonates today."

The Trainer 80, which debuted in 1978, revolutionised running shoes by replacing the obsolete cardboard layer between the sole and top with high-density EVA foam. This innovation resulted in a better, more responsive experience. The reinvented version combines nostalgic appeal with current upgrades, honouring Saucony's tradition of performance and street flair.

The campaign, directed by Joe Howat and photographed by CANADA, features members from both Balamii and YFR. The Trainer 80 is now available in various colours at select retailers and saucony.com.
