Sabiyha's Vulnerable Debut EP 'Sheerkhan' Chronicles Her Raw Essence

Freely subverting every box she could be placed in, Sabiyha unapologetically pours her colorful journey of life experience and influence into her work. Her boisterous vibrato runs essential at the core of her songs as she admittedly evades the bounds of genre. Born and bred in South London, the artist firmly taps into a legion of sounds and themes throughout her music, where she’s made a name for channeling some vulnerable moments in her exploration of self-discovery, touching on everything from queerness and lust to pain and recovery.

Placing an emphasis on her blended heritage, the British-Guyanese artist leans into her culturally varied upbringing - assembling a catalog that holds no bars in an honest display of representation. Her debut EP is no different, as her candid track-list picks up rooted subjects of strength and empowerment; inherited maternal characteristics she’s immortalized in the project's naming entitled ‘Sheerkhan’, her mother’s maiden name. This newest release instinctively drifts from punchier tracks to softer features, making for a track list worth a play for an assorted sum of occasions. From the more cathartic ‘Sweetness’ that sits alongside the forceful ‘Say My Name’, ‘Sheerkhan’ follows the artist’s unspoken mantra of self-actualization. Her unguardedness materializes to bring a collection that offers listeners an insight into the psyche of the young performer and one that hears her forge a signature framework with her blended sound.

A singer and songwriter, Sabiyha also maintains a powerful stage persona, a central element for any artist ready to go the mile. And with a steady set of releases and string of performances earlier this year, it’s clear the budding talent is set on continuing to define her name and unique sound on her own terms. The artist is keen on offering her boundless style to a wider collective, having already gained a generous cosign from industry influencers like the Guardian, Gal-Dem, The Line of Best Fit and Radio 1’s Jack Saunders.
