Born outside of the city not far from Leicester, 18-year-old Sekou has released his debut single “Better Man” a record that exhibits vocals way beyond his years, the track melds contemporary sounds with a hint of smooth R’n’B, all while taking inspiration from some of his favourite artists including Michael Jackson, Prince, and Chaka Khan.
Sekou is already off to an impressive start to his career as he has already graced the BBC Music Introducing tent at the infamous Glastonbury Festival in 2022. Sekou has additionally worked alongside some of the most talented producers for his debut including Sounwave (6Lack, Kendrick Lamar) & Yakob (J Cole, Future, SZA, Giveon). “Better Man” glides Sekou’s silky vocals on a piano-led track, all while opening his heart on topics many may find relatable like redemption, self-reflection, and growth, encouraging listeners to accept their flaws and work on being the best version of themselves.
Being a musician is something that was written in the stars for Sekou, as he’s been singing, performing, and writing ever since he was a young child until the present day when Sekou was initially discovered through a performance he was doing a in car park in 2021. Apart from working with some of the biggest producers in music, Sekou has already caught the attention of a wide variety of artists including Labrinth, Anderson.Paak, Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa, and more. Amongst two already sold-out shows in his hometown, Sekou is set to release his debut EP later this year.
