Rising Birmingham vocalist Clementine Douglas Diving deep into the soul of house and UKG on her solo debut single ‘Riddles’. The young songstress has in the past worked with the likes of artists such as Chase & Status but has decided to venture out into her own.

And finding freedom in her independence ‘Riddles’ is an exploration of Clementine’s innate curiosity and character as she searches for the hidden meaningful behind life.

A memorable and addictive cut, Clementine’s vocals provide a timeless feel to the beat. Soulful, raw and sweet, she also demonstrates an exquisite vocal control on her debut

The singer grew up surrounded by the sounds of reggae and soul played by her dad who was a DJ. Often Etta James and Stevie Wonder were the go to sets.

Expressing her need to escape, she sings So tired can't tell how I feel / Look at myself I don't know what's real / Everybody talking in riddles /No way out like a piggie in the middle.”

The production of the track is beautifully composed from drawn out live string instrumentation that further enforces the emotional depth of the track, acoustic  guitar rifts are played in intervals and the thudding percussion based instrumentation approaches and recedes like the tides.

Speaking on this exciting new chapter and the new single, Clementine shares, “It’s like Riddles is the first chapter of a new book. One where I get to set the scene and create the characters but where the story will go, I don’t know. I guess that’s what makes it exciting. Ever since I was little I’ve always had a passion for singing and writing songs, I just want to keep creating music I love and see where the journey takes me.

With my solo music, I’m trying to bring more soulful elements into dance, like live instruments, piano and strings. Some dance music can be so electronic and auto-tuned that you lose the humanity of it. With this, there’s no auto-tune, I just want to make it feel kind of raw, and like it has some textures and a human touch to it.”

Not a stranger to success, Clementine won the prestigious “Vocalist of the Year” at the Radio 1 Dance Awards last year and is considered a rising talent in the genre and beyond.
