Rimon demonstrates her artistry and her ability as a vivid storyteller in her newest short film ‘20/20’ which was created to accompany the track off of her EP Digital Tears released last year.
Pairing beautiful visuals with an equally beautiful song, the songstress takes us back to her motherland Ethiopia for a spiritual awakening, creating at the same time a full circle moment for Rimon as she emerses herself in the warmth of familiarity that you can only receive from a homecoming. The short film provides a breath of fresh air, as we gaze at the shots of the people of Ethiopia, the land, the culture, and nature itself ambitiously capturing the essence.
20/20 was directed by Bleu Unit, a familiar face who worked with the artist in the past. The whole message of the video and the song can be seen as a rejection of the modern world and problems the digital age carries, such as the preference of mass over substance.
Rimon says: “Working with Bleu Unit was so important for me - they truly elevated ‘20/20’ and added a cinematic view that I could have never imagined when working on the first treatment. I wanted to shine a light on Ethiopia, the people, and the country itself - not tainted by politics, but with the warmth that I remember and hold so deep.”
We are treated to shots of nature at its purest, and the importance of home and belonging is also touched upon. This also supports the main concepts of ‘Digital Tears’, which explored the relationship between humans and technology, with a particular focus on our relationship with social media and phones in this modern day of unrealistic beauty standards of social media, trolls, and the constant noise these platforms create.
The noise mentioned is being blocked by the sonic experience of '20/20'. Alternative R&B, Rimon combines harmonious vocals and poetic lyricism with a jazz-influenced production to create tender feelings. A guitar is also rifted is subtly looped throughout the track.
Unlike any other artist in her field, she continues to shapeshift and take on new stories and personalities with every project she puts out and we hope she continues to push the boundaries to create everlasting art.
