Tapping into the essence of 80s electronic dance, South London’s Prince of Falls’ new single ‘Holding Back’ explores deep feelings of longing and yearning for his love interest.
He crafts a simplistic but addictive hook that rests against aquatic sonic sounds and draws you in. The construction of the soundscape is also made up of a moody melody and minimalistic percussion.
Pinning for her desperately, seductively he breathes “ Girl I need you like I need my drugs, so hard to love” darkening the atmosphere of the track as indirectly shows themes of drug addiction and self-sabotage whilst almost providing a window into why the girl might be hesitant to commit.
Prine of Falls, shares: “Holding back is about being addicted to a person and losing full control of your own mind. This song is an adventure complemented by a high Nostalgia video with deep sad memories & a dark grove to the tempo of a mixture of 80s and trap soul.”
The accompanying video is shot outside of a London estate at night, which perfectly encapsulates the whole vibe of the song as Prince of Falls wonders around searching for his love in the process encountering all sorts of people.
Born in Nigeria but raised in Greenwich, South London, Prince of Falls cannot simply be confined to one genre. The 25-year-old’s music spans from R&B to indie.
The underground artist has already released two projects respectively ‘Til We Feel Something’ in 2019 followed by ‘Diary of a Lonely Night’ two years later.
Now scheduled for a third EP 'Somewhere Doing Something' we cannot wait to see if he sticks with the electronic dance sound that is beginning to become addictive.
