Pharrell's Debut LV Collection: Actions speak louder than words.

Pharrell Williams, in his true multi-hyphenated style, orchestrated a cinematic opening for his highly anticipated debut show, with the live stream commencing as comedian Jerrod Carmichael purposefully strolled along the picturesque River Seine in Paris. Carmichael donned a black knitted vest and a monogrammed brown leather cap. As the camera widened its view, he approached the seated artist Henry Taylor, and a moment of contemplation ensued. Carmichael candidly questioned, "Do you truly acknowledge the intensity of your desires? Sometimes, I hesitate to express the extent of my ambition. Sometimes, I fail to convey how strongly I yearn for it." In response, Taylor, reflecting thoughtfully, stated, "Actions speak louder than words. I often ponder the sacrifices made to pursue this path." Their conversation gradually faded away, and the scene seamlessly transitioned to a breath taking aerial shot of Paris. Models descended the Pont Neuf bridge with grace and diligence, creating a harmonious spectacle.

In Vogue's first look at the collection, Williams expressed his excitement, saying, "My spirit is electrified with excitement, and I feel no nerves." The pieces themselves truly embodied Pharrell's creative energy, as he revitalized the brand's signature monograms and patterns. Damier motifs adorned jackets and coats, while Taylor's micro faces were embroidered onto denim pieces, adding a unique touch to the collection. The show opened with Williams' signature tailored suits and matching shorts, complemented by rain boots and Damier checked mini trunks. Louis Vuitton trunks were reimagined in various forms, ranging from shiny copper transported on buggies by models to jacquard and pearl embroidery. The iconic speedy bag was given a new interpretation in leather instead of canvas, paired with lugged Mary Janes worn by YSL creative director Stefano Pilati. The show was a cultural renaissance, moving away from the previous rumblings of 'silent fashion'. Instead, Williams envisioned pieces, as a youth he'd dream about, Illustrated in the slogan of his home town- "Virginia is for lovers", splattered on bold varsity jackets.

Williams was also steadfast in paying homage to the late Virgil Abloh, stating, "I even collaborated with Virgil in spirit." This sentiment was reflected in Williams' own digital print, which paid tribute to Abloh's 2019 pixelated pattern. Additionally, Williams honoured his design team by bringing them out at the end of the show to take a bow. In those final moments, he fervently prayed to God and expressed gratitude for his family, truly embodying Taylor's opening words that "Actions speak louder than words."
