PFW SS25: LACOSTE

In a captivating tribute to the vibrant spirit of the 1920s, Pelagia Kolotouros and the Lacoste design team shared a collection that encapsulates the essence of an active, carefree lifestyle. Drawing inspiration from archival photographs of a tennis champion basking in the sun on the shores of Southwestern France, the show resonated with themes of joy, camaraderie, and the exhilaration of summer.

This season, Lacoste seamlessly intertwines its athletic heritage with modern French sophistication, creating a collection that feels both timeless and fresh. Bright, airy silhouettes danced down the runway, exuding a sense of energy infused with graceful fluidity and effortless style. The backdrop, featuring a beautifully restored 1920s building adorned with lush greenery and warm sunlight, set the stage for an immersive experience. A striking net sculpture by British artist Susie MacMurray served as a fitting homage to the sport’s rich history, inviting attendees to celebrate the art of tennis.

Kolotouros masterfully balanced the realms of formal and casual, crafting a versatile wardrobe that flows effortlessly from the tennis court to summer gatherings. Weekend racquet totes added a playful flair, while feminine silhouettes showcased flattering pleats, daring cut-outs, and intricate lingerie-inspired details. For men, the collection included a tailored blazer—a nod to the brand's iconic heritage—softened with a relaxed shoulder and paired with stylish performance shorts.

Modern takes on 1920s and 1930s bathing suits, beachwear, and lingerie showcased playful glimpses of skin, while athletic V-neck décolletés offered a sultry twist on classic designs. By reinterpreting iconic symbols, Kolotouros explored the Lacoste crocodile through a contemporary lens, incorporating elements such as bones, teeth, and eyes into striking jewelry pieces that complemented fluid summer shirts and sleek track suits.

Drawing inspiration from tennis culture, neo-tennis looks emerged throughout the collection. The classic polo shirt was reimagined as t-shirts, evening dresses, and tennis skirts, all infused with archival references like tennis balls and rackets, alongside prints by artist Robert George, who famously designed the original crocodile logo. Abundant pleats celebrated the legacy of tennis champion Suzanne Lenglen, lending fluidity and movement to body-conscious designs.

Texture played a vital role in the collection, with bouclés and luxurious satin reminiscent of sunlit waves, while delicate lace embroideries and performance-oriented silicone trims added an invigorating dimension. The color palette transitioned from soft nude tones to rich espresso, creating a neutral foundation for vibrant accents. Energetic bursts of yellow and green, along with refreshing interpretations of Lacoste's classic hues, painted a picture of youthful exuberance and sunny optimism.

Lacoste's Spring/Summer 2025 collection beautifully bridges the gap between heritage and modernity, inviting us to revel in the joys of a sun-drenched lifestyle while celebrating the elegance of sport. As the models gracefully paraded down the runway, it became clear that Pelagia Kolotouros had crafted a collection that honors the past while boldly embracing the vibrancy of the present, inspiring us to embrace a life filled with style and joy.
