Kevin Germanier, fresh from his work on the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony costumes, brought a heightened sense of theatricality to his Spring/Summer 2025 collection. Titled "Les Désastreuses," The collection boldly embraced a blend of chaos and opulence, reflecting Germanier's unique vision of transforming discarded materials into spectacular fashion. This season, the Swiss designer took his ongoing commitment to sustainability and injected it with cosmic flair, resulting in a collection that dazzled and surprised.
Known for his maximalist designs bursting with colour and texture, Germanier expanded his vision by drawing inspiration from the zodiac. The name "Les Désastreuses" played with the double meaning of "disaster" and "stars" in French, cleverly weaving together the themes of destruction and celestial beauty. This interplay became the foundation for a collection that turned the concept of chaos into something both glamorous and thought-provoking.
Sustainability remained central to Germanier’s approach, as he worked his magic on an array of discarded materials. Unwanted Havaianas flip-flops, rejected holographic sequins, and surplus fabric scraps became the raw ingredients for his bold, inventive designs. His creations were a testament to the potential of repurposing waste, transforming the ordinary into extraordinary.
One of the show’s highlights was a stunning Pisces-inspired mermaid gown, designed in collaboration with Richard Quinn’s London studio. This piece shimmered with a sense of aquatic mystery, balancing whimsical beauty with a touch of rebelliousness that defined the collection. Other looks followed suit, with asymmetrical silhouettes, bold cuts, and a chaotic blend of textures that felt both unorthodox and undeniably high-fashion.
Germanier’s SS25 collection went beyond the surface of fashion, offering a deeper reflection on the future of the industry. By reimagining waste and transforming it into couture, he pushed the boundaries of what luxury fashion can be. "Les Désastreuses" was not just a display of innovative craftsmanship, but a statement about the possibilities of sustainability in a world where beauty can be found in the most unexpected places.
