PFW AW25 - Hermès Menswear

Véronique Nichanian has run Hermès’ menswear for almost 37 years. She saw the reinvention of the 80s by Jean-Louis Dumas and is an integral part of the aspirational mystique the French house has cultivated and held. She is the longest serving creative director without her own label. Despite this, her legacy is abundantly clear when looking back at the last four decades of French fashion.

This latest collection is yet another example of her sophisticated and chic approach to menswear. A warm palette reigned, with the occasional splash of colour. There were multiple variations of grey and brown, contrasted with blues and whites. Stylistically, a mastery of layering was apparent throughout the looks, adding to the appeal of the garments. Jackets, shirts, coats, bags and hoodies all made an appearance, creating a refined yet laid back wardrobe for men.

The few examples of tailoring in the collection were sublime. Véronique speaks of wanting to bring back suits and creating beautifully tailored garments that people will incorporate into their day-to-day wardrobe rather than saving them for situations where they are compelled to wear them.

There is a certain je ne sais quoi in every menswear collection Hermes does. A calming colour selection mixed with contemporary silhouettes which creates garments that would look good on anyone. Whilst everyone seems to think of Birkins and Kellys when they hear ‘Hermès’, the true star is, and always will be, the legacy built by Véronique Nichanian.
