A modern, afro-fusion ballad about the perils of falling in love, heartbreak, and regret, Oxlade’s Ojuju, taken from his sophomore EP Eclipse, is the perfect melting pot of passionate vocals, lush production and captivating storytelling, and the song just got an equally stunning visual to match. Directed by Demola Falomo, the new music video features Oxlade reminiscing on the highs and lows of a past relationship, pleasing the eye with beautiful lighting, visual effects and aesthetics.

Produced by fellow Nigerian hit-maker DJ Coublon, who has collaborated with Not3s, Yemi Alade and Sarkodie, Ojuju’s beat is sprinkled with elements of new-wave afrobeat and R&B, making it a euphonious, tranquil earworm that sounds just as great in the autumn as it did in the summer.

On the new EP, Eclipse, Oxlade said: “An eclipse occurs when two celestial bodies are involved. This love story is the result of two godlike creatures falling in love and that love story if completed would be the most powerful force in the universe. Sadly, not all love stories have a happy ending.”

A Lagos native with musical backgrounds in the choir, Oxlade’s been applying pressure to the music scene since 2017. With every release being just as successful as the prior, he’s seen cosigns from Davido and Wizkid, added his flavour to the remix of Skip Marley and H.E.R’s track Slow Down, and had his tune Away listed as one of Rolling Stone’s best songs of 2020.

With a more than impressive resume, distinctive talent and impeccable work-rate, it’s no surprise why Oxlade has managed to rack up over 100 million streams on his music. Ojuju is yet another ethereal number, and has set him apart from many other breakout afro-fusion artists of the past few years. Admire the visuals for Ojuju below.
