Olivia Dean Closes the Year With Sentimental Single ‘Touching Toes’

This weekend Olivia Dean spoiled her fans with the new single ‘Touching Toes’ alongside ethereal visuals from the London-based singer to accompany the second release since her debut album Messy.

Olivia’s magnetic performance invites her fans to see a raw personal perspective of the song. Opening up about embarking on new relationships, feelings of falling in love and the awareness of it all, Olivia sings of these emotions with ease. As the artist we know who is familiar with vulnerable lyricism, this track sees her fall back into comfortability within her music for an end to this chapter of her music journey. Stepping into the unknown, unaware and excited about the future, these lyrical prospects relate to Olivia’s new ventures in the coming year musically. It seems perfectly fitting for a track on new experiences and the courage it takes to break into what is yet to be discovered.

Starting off strong performing on Jools Holland’s New Year’s show, Olivia’s success this year is nothing short of astonishing.  At only 25 years old, The Brit School alumni has performed all over the world, secured herself as a headline act and featured in British Vogue to name one of the many renowned fashion publications under her belt in the last 12 months.

Olivia sings “Though I could do it myself it’s kind of nice to have some help. Lately I’ve been thinking, thinking what the hell?”, her relatability and authenticity is what draws fans to the soulful voice that underpins the lullaby-like melody. She wraps these feelings into a dreamy melody that demonstrates her vulnerability to succumb to being in love.

Collaborating with Zack Nahome for the production of the track, Olivia sings on a minor pre-chorus over acoustic instrumentals, “I’m allergic to cliches I mean what’s three words that we’ve all heard but damn they do some great.” Like the back of her hand, Olivia lays down smooth legato strumming patterns, previously heard on tracks like ‘Messy’ and ‘UFO’. The artist knows her sound, her listeners and most importantly, who she is and exactly what she has to offer.

The outro suddenly finishes with Olivia singing acapella and angelic backing vocals creating a diminuendo ending to the soft track. Undoubtedly, 2024 has been the year of Olivia Dean, and ‘Touching Toes’ is the perfect closing track to cement her place as the UK’s princess in jazz and soul music.  As the singer goes on to take over the world with relatable lyrics and heartfelt rhythms, her fans in London will be cheering her on.
