NSMNIA by HARUNA Brings African Electronic Music to the World

Electronic music from and within the African diaspora is an underappreciated art form. NSMNIA looks to remedy this with a lineup of artists and DJs, including Larizzle, Dibs, Ekany, Ski Carl, Rico Mars, and Monicashflow. Promising "Everything Afro-Electronic" NSMNIA spans genres including kwaito, amapiano, Afrohouse, gqom, kuduro, afrobeat, kizomba, and more. This carefully selected lineup channels the essence of African electronic music and its global influence. The DJs and producers come from different countries and backgrounds, each providing a unique perspective to form a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere.

NSMNIA is the brainchild of DJ, Producer and Model HARUNA, which first began at a residency at Balamii. Connecting with his Nigerian and Ugandan roots, HARUNA endeavours to celebrate the artistry of the African diaspora. Now partnering with Dr Martens, NSMNIA brings its vibrant and rich sounds to UNDR on the 31st of August. For HARUNA, “NSMNIA is an exploration and celebration of the rich and diverse electronic music landscape within the African diaspora. The platform was inspired by a desire to spotlight the unique sounds and genres emerging from African communities worldwide. We aim to create entertainment and educational events for all our members, DJs and Producers.”

Aimed at any and all music enthusiasts who look to broaden their sonic horizons and are passionate about diverse sounds and cultures, NSMNIA promises to enable a deep connection with the vibrant and diverse world of African electronic music as well as the people you are surrounded by - “whether you are a producer, DJ or enjoyment ambassador, we can all find common ground,” says Haruna. The event hopes to inspire creativity, innovation, and a renewed appreciation for how these genres shape music globally. NSMNIA also wants to “reach out to potential producers or DJs" and provide a space where they can grow through NSMNIA's educational events and eventually join the community as members.

Partnering with Dr Martens came about through a longstanding relationship with Exposure London, “a dynamic PR company known for being a driving force in connecting brands with authentic cultural movements”. In particular, Tanz, who is part of the Exposure team - “Understanding the cultural significance of NSMNIA and its mission to celebrate African electronic music, Tanz saw the potential for a partnership with Dr. Martens.”
