The producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer Noé Solange takes listeners on a journey of ups and downs with her new single ‘Wilting’. Released on the 26th of October, the London-based Dutch-Indonesian artist has had her work lauded by the likes of Mixmag and Notion to name a few and continues to be praised for her grounded and haunting lyricism.
Boasting over one Spotify million streams from her song ‘Nocturnal Lady’, Solange’s lyricism explores themes of introspection, mental health and growth through downtempo electronica. Drawing inspiration from her mixed heritage, cross-continent upbringing and nature, the artist draws the listener into an immersive experience.
On the meaning behind the name of the single and its significance to the theme of the song, Noé Solange explains how, ‘the notion of wilting feels like a beautiful metaphor for those more complex, difficult emotions … it also carries a hopeful reminder that, just like in nature, this phase can stand as a singular chapter in our journey of healing before blossoming into a new version of ourselves”.
‘Wilting’ is shrouded in melancholy whilst equally exploring feelings of hope in her journey of healing and self-discovery. Downtempo electronic beats lay underneath a bed Solange’s wistful vocals created a mood that is specific to her sound, with the narrative switching from hopelessness and doubt ('Wilting') to healing and renewal ('Bloom').
'Bloom''s more minimalistic instrumentals and soothing synths encapsulate a more hopeful tone in contrast to 'Wilting', with the tracks giving listeners an insight into her upcoming EP. Both songs and their respective titles present dichotomies of growth, death, hope and fear that underpin the themes behind the singles and summarise Solange's sentiments about her life journey.
