Alternative soul singer-songwriter Nicola Gaea returns with a timely offering in the form of the introspectively thought-provoking ‘Distractions’.
With an electronic production, you're kept in time with the drums as subtle synth strings flit underneath gracefully allowing Nicola's wispy vocals to float in a neo-soul approach. It’s a venture into a new exciting sound that we haven’t heard Nicola experiment with yet.
The beat feels addictive and hypnotic, leaving you in a transit state as the north Londoner skates along the beat reminding people of the importance of giving one’s self grace and love as she disconnects from the world to find balance and realigns, while also forgoing distractions.
Nicola, speaking about the inspiration behind the track says “There can be a lot of distractions in day to day life. Things we tend to worry about, although might seem important to us, in the grander scheme of life most of them are probably not that important.
Social media puts us in a constant state of viewing other people’s lives which when we fall into '"their life looks better than mine” “I’m not doing enough” etc, it can have a negative effect on your spirit.
The song is a reminder to disconnect from the noise and embrace the things that truly matter to you. It can have different meanings to different people, depending on how you live your life and I think that’s pretty cool. “
The record is the fifth single from the North Londoner and hints at what’s to come on her debut project, set to be released next year, which remains unnamed.
Still, at the beginning stages of her career, we cannot wait to see it unfold further as she continues to stride forward and grow.
