Nia Archives' 'Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against Tha Wall’ Is A Snapshot Into Her Life

Across her new EP ‘Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against Tha Wall’ the 23-year-old Nia Achieves creates an innovative but deeply personal record that provides detailed colourful impressions that hold up to take in an image of the Manchester-based artist’s life. Like breadcrumbs, each song off of the project is a thread that once tugged unravels a bit more about Nia.

Taking inspiration from UK Soundsystem culture and carnival Nia is a product of the UK Jungle scene that has seen a resurgence. The EP, released via HIJINXX/Island Records is comprised of six unique jungle-influenced tracks. One of her most recent singles ‘Baiana’ appears on the project.

‘Sampling Barbatuques, a local Brazilian choir the energetic ‘Baina’ is the blurring of intense jungle elements and the spiritual essence of samba. It’s the type of track that makes you want to give in and let go.

Whilst on the pessimistic ‘That’s Tha Way Life Goes’ Nia engages with unrequited love and the drain that it makes on you emotionally but ultimately accepts the risk of loving someone. The artist sings languidly Losing control my mind my soul love takes it toll but I don’t seem to care.”

Getting to work with one of her musical inspirations singer-songwriter Maverick Sabre, ‘No Need 2 Be Sorry, Call Me?’ is about providing unselfish comfort and reassurance to a loved one, and clarifying a romantic situation that has become too ambiguous, reflecting the modern dating scene at the moment.

The soulful vocals of Maverick compliment Nia’s refreshingly rich and swaying voice both easily conveying emotional depth that leaves you bare.

The production of ‘So Tell Me’ is experimental, you hear the indie acoustic guitars gently strumming underneath the rapid percussion drum beat before gradually the violin strings rise to thicken the texture of the atmospheric soundscape. It’s the perfect space for an uncertain Nia to let her thoughts wander on whether she should leave her relationship or not, as she struggles with a decision.

Nia realises her worth and prioritises self-care on ‘Conveniency’ as she decides to remove herself from a neglectful relationship. The last track of the EP and title track ‘Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against Tha Wall’ is arguably one of the most personal and creative. Pure jungle, Nia samples conversations from her friend and experiments with her own vocals.

In her own words,Nia shares: It’s the most exciting project I’ve made yet and it's a window into the future and the kind of artist I wanna become. It’s like Headz Gone West 2.0, with these new techniques I’ve learned through a bit of trial and error so it’s a lot more of the song-based project with a couple of club moments.”

The DJ/Jungle artist is scheduled for a UK/EU tour this month as well as a USA tour that starts on the 7th of April in Brooklyn.
