Namacheko Designer Dilan Lurr Assembles His SS22 Collection The Ugly Swan In A Futuristic Setting

This season, reflecting on fairy-tales we are all familiar with is something Namacheko designer Dilan Lurr created and assembled for the SS22 show presentation collection titled The Ugly Swan at Paris Fashion Week this year. With a combined display of inspiration from his analogy to Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy-tales “Ugly Duckling” joined together with his reflection as an immigrant amongst his heritage was a message to be told.

At nine years of age, Lurr migrated from Iraq to Sweden. It was a massive change for the designer. He felt like an outsider and had to adjust to his surroundings, learning everything he could about the language and Sweden as his new home. With a focus on past designs, as a designer, Lurr is very passionate about his upbringing and proud of his Kurdish & Swedish heritage, which he embraced whilst creating his SS22 The Ugly Swan collection to life.

His goal was to explain the complexities of being an outsider and the feeling of an Ugly Duckling. In this case, you realise the individual is a beautiful budding swan in this futuristic fantasy of a collection Lurr has produced. From Lurr’s love of the Star Wars films, he managed to channel the character relationship with the various species and apply the emotion to his collection.

Showing a modern take to the Space Age, Lurr provided the appropriate backdrop for the label Namacheko SS22 collection. Bringing together the selection that defined by the aesthetics between an ugly duckling and being a swan.

The collection features an impressive selection of menswear staples such as comfortable boilersuits, denim paint-coated jackets and acid-washed jeans. Coin shaped buttons on fitted jackets with metal tassels, heavyweight silks used to create tracksuits to add a sense of luxury.

Key details were in the spotlight for this collection, especially the Kurdish embellishments on coat pockets representing the creative designer's heritage, highlighted in an array of daring and vibrant colours including red, blue, green shades and many more that compliment the selection to complete the perfect looks.
