Embarking on a brand new chapter, Artist, producer and all round talent Emma Jean Thackray returns to the sphere with “Black Hole”, courtesy of Brownswood Recordings (Yussef Dayes, Kokoroko), the record is her first musical offering since 2021, which saw the release of her highly celebrated debut album “Yellow”.
“Black Hole” showcases Emma Jean’s exquisitely unique vocals sit on this funky bed, which seamlessly blends various genres like soul, jazz, pop and parliamentary-funk. The genre blending single “Black Hole” also features musician and comedian Reggie Watts, together the two have opened this brand new musical portal for Emma Jean Thackray, where she’s able to tell stories of self expression, independence and boundary pushing.
“Sometimes life feels like an inescapable black hole and you think you’re never gonna get out of there, that you’ll be floating in the abyss for ever. During those moments, for me there’s only music that can pull me out. In dark times when even puppies can’t make you break a smile, you gotta start up the space ship and make a weird-ass p-funk inspired tune. Cut some filthy drums, get out the space echo, and let the silliness of a wah-pedal lift your mood and remind you that when music is your purpose, you always have a light to walk towards.” Emma-Jean Thackray
Emm\- Jean Thackray’s return follows on from iconic performances at the London Symphony and the world famous Glastonbury Festival, alongside the releases of her self-released EP “Walrus” (2016) and the Jazz FM award-winning “Yellow” (2021).
A triumphant re-entry into the music scene, Emma-Jean Thackray is set for an outstanding 2025!!
Amazing "Black Hole" description! Emma Jean's voice has that uncommon power that lifts you even in the worst times. The Reggie Watts collaboration seems excellent, combining inventiveness and fun. It's a lovely reminder that music can save us and make our troubles pleasant. Looking forward to this musical adventure and feeling that brightness! slope
