Fusing the best bits of classic and contemporary R&B, Leicester born, London based singer/songwriter Morgan Munroe returns with her first solo release of the year, “Mutual”. Produced by TJ2Percent, the song captures the essence of a relationship that has run its course yet the ex-lovers are holding on so no one else can have them.
Morgan’s faultless voice commands attention and uncovers all that can be lost and gained through love and heartbreak providing sultry rhythmic delivery and passionate long held high notes to convey the tension that has been built up and then released giving us goosebumps.
Accompanied by a cinematic video directed by Nzi (Newbody), Morgan stars as the leading heroine in a revenge story, actions come ahead and take a dark turn as she dishes out her woeful exs comeuppance. The track is also BBC Radio Leicester’s Track of the Week.
Speaking on the track Morgan said: 'This song is about not wanting to be with your partner anymore but not wanting them to be with anyone else either. It's a relatable subject but I didn't want the visuals to portray a “real” or obvious version of a relationship so we explored the oxymoron and fictionalised the visual story, I had fun pretending to take my fake boyfriend hostage for doing me dirty lol!'
Growing up in The Midlands, Morgan found her voice at school when her friends overheard her singing in her playground. Whilst the world has eyes on the capital, Leceister provided its own thriving scene which created a space for Morgan to find her place within the UK landscape on her own terms.
In 2019 she moved down to London and became a staple in the live music community, honing her craft as a performer until the pandemic hit and ground everything to a halt. Morgan had to pivot her hard-working mindset to the online activity that took place within music and she came up with triumphs along the way.
She went on to win various competitions throughout the lockdowns including £7.5K worth of home studio equipment in an SBTV comp as well as being highlighted on DJ Targets BBC 1Xtra IG live series. Continuing her online entrepreneurial mindset, last year Morgan was one of 4 winners of the Only Fans Creative Fund, each winner received £20,000.00. Part of the campaign was for Morgan to start an Only Fans account and actively use it which forced her to really up her content production seeing her reach 61,000 subscribers already.
Morgan is on a mission to flip the script on misplaced stereotypes surrounding women in love, loss and business. Her hustler mindset should be praised not judged and she plans to let her music do all the talking. With co-signs from the likes of BBC 1’s Rickie Melvin & Charlie, DJ Target, Rebecca Judd, Clash, FIFA, & Pause, the songstress is currently sitting on a project's worth of music ready to be revealed at any minute. To catch Morgan live this summer head to The Great Escape on 14th May.
