MFW A/W25 - MM6 Maison Margiela

What happens when structure meets subversion? MM6’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection walks that tightrope, balancing precise tailoring with just enough slippage to unsettle expectations.

Anchored in structured outerwear and disciplined tailoring, the collection revisits its house codes with a measured hand, reconfiguring familiar silhouettes through subtle distortion. This season’s tailoring oscillates between precision and exaggeration, with rigid, oversized shoulders in coats and blazers offset by lean, sculpted trousers and fitted shirting.

The styling leans into precision, with each model in black angular sunglasses that amplify the collection’s sculptural sensibility. This measured aesthetic carries through to the garments themselves: classics such as trench coats, pantsuits, polos, and pencil skirts are layered with sheer tops and fitted dresses, all in a palette of black, brown, and grey. The colour story remains controlled, shifting through deep blacks, muted browns, and slate greys, punctuated only by occasional injections of colour.

Fabrication is uncompromising; natural fibres reinforce a tactile, enduring sensibility, stripping away ornamentation in favour of structural integrity. Silhouettes are augmented without excess, reinforcing MM6’s commitment to proportion as principle.

Each look relied on precise layering and considered accessories. Boots and pumps, sheer stockings, and leather gloves were interspersed throughout the collection, introducing a subversive tension between utility and sensuality. Spacious bags reinforced the idea of an external wardrobe, adding to the ideology that one can carry more whilst still feeling complete within oneself.

MM6’s Fall/Winter offering doesn’t rely on theatrics, nor does it seek validation through excess. Instead, it refines its vision with precision, reaffirming the house’s commitment to utility reimagined.
