Mereba Celebrates Her Journey On 'Counterfeit' And Announces New Album 'The Breeze Grew A Fire'

A swim against the upstream, and a reflection on her journey, Mereba breaks her musical silence since her 2021 AZEB EP, by sharing her newest single ‘Counterfeit’ , a deeply personal message about staying true and authentic to yourself – a celebration of your individuality.

A reflection of the intense emotion that is the foundation of her upcoming third album The Breeze Grew A Fire. Mereba holds fast despite the external pressures of conformity,  whilst reassuring herself, and others that there is power in originality.

The Breeze Grew A Fire, an intimate project that explores Mereba’s interiority, whilst also examining how she interacts with the exterior world.

One of the main themes of the new album is reconnection. And it Merba’s case it’s with her inner child, which reflects the sonics. The dreamy soundscape is lulled by melodic snyths that convey an airy nature but grounded by 808 drums

The space is perfectly situated for the multidisciplinary artist’s sweet and mellow languid vocals that provide a comforting warmth to the instrumental. Her distinct drawl softens something in else before she fluidly exhales breathless notes in intermissions.

Honing on the theme of indivisuality the accompanying video directed by Courtney Sofiah Yates sees Mereba unknowningly stalked though the streets in a game of cat and mouse with her double.

Speaking on the early stages of The Breeze Grew A Fire, she shares, “For this [album], it went back to me being on my own for the creation of a lot of the songs, and it was really important for me at this time of life because I was a little disconnected from the world, and from who I was. So I was trying to find my way back to myself first. What do I like? What do I want to hear? What do I want to say to people now?” .
