Martine Rose FW24: For the Joy of Dressing

I recently wrote about stagnation in the fashion industry. It is certainly prevalent. In difficult times fashion tends to instinctively shift towards the more mundane, safe and commercial. This latest offering from Martine Rose is as far from that as anything we have seen lately. A collection crafted purely for the joy of dressing. A collection fighting for individuality and creative freedom.

The night was more than just a fashion show. Rose isn't limited by the constraints of taking herself too seriously. The event was a riotous ode to the pure ecstasy fashion has the power to illicit.

Rose wanted to strip away everything but what she really cares about. She wanted to focus on how “clothes can make you feel transformed” and phones were banned to allow this moment of transformation and bliss to truly shine without the distracting desire to document every aspect.

This show was an eloquent representation of why Martine Rose has come to hold a position of such esteem in men’s fashion. However, it also proved her to be an equally inspirational figure when it comes to womenswear.

Rose artfully shifted from smartly fitted oversized tailoring to vibrant and playful evening wear. Flitting elegantly from day to night, from work to the club and from formal suiting to full leather cowboy ensembles.

The show was presented to a collection of the family and friends of those who had a hand in its creation. This novel approach created an incredibly special celebratory atmosphere, helping a collection that really wasn’t lacking for unforgettable moments stand out even more.

Rose concluded the show by allowing the audience a chance to take to the catwalk while also holding a raffle for St Giles Trust a charity helping those affected by poverty, homelessness, exploitation and abuse.

Martine Rose is one of the true shining lights of modern fashion. This month’s show was simply another thrilling chapter in what is becoming a truly exemplary résumé.
