Tolu Coker’s AW24 collection drew inspiration from the essence of Ghanaian street hawker culture. The runway exuded an eclectic atmosphere, reminiscent of bustling street markets, the runway designed with tires, piles of bananas, and colourful food carts, bringing to life the inspiration for the collection.
The collection itself was a testament to Coker's creative prowess, with each garment visualising a unique blend of style and functionality. Creative layering took centre stage, as hoodies peeked out from under sleek wool coats, and baby blue gowns were effortlessly paired with trousers. Models wore multiple crossbody raffia bags, adding a touch of street-smart charm to the garments. Denim patchwork mini dresses and vibrant striped corsets layered over matching dresses brought a sense of individuality and flair to the runway.
Through the designs, Coker paid homage to the resilience and resourcefulness of street vendors, celebrating the vibrant tapestry of the diaspora. Each stitch told a story, weaving together elements of heritage and innovation in a celebration of community and craft.
