Kwoli Black And Karl Benjamin Team Up For The Feel Good 'Pretty'

'Pretty’ is Hackney-born artist Kwoli Black’s newest silky-toned self-affirmative offering that features enlists singer-songwriter Karl Benjamin.

Downtempo-ed and laidback, Kwoli expresses the value found in himself with a casual air and directly engages with masculinity and male beauty standards, whilst simultaneously serenading his love interest.

Words are spoken in a poetic deliverance to cultivate good energy that is effortlessly reflected in the soundscape as Kwoli raps “Adore me baby/ show me that you love me and Dior me baby/ that satin silk skin blessed with melanin / aint no other man came before me baby.

Smooth, confident and charismatic there is the feeling of the sound of 70s funk in the instrumentation, produced by JSTRNGS. Undertones of electric Guitar rifts are played leisurely, cushioned by percussion elements and a deep baseline that is spaced around harmonious melodies.

Speaking on the single Kwoli said, Who loves you better than you? Within you is all the love and admiration you need. The song is from a male's perspective but it’s for everyone. When you look good, you feel good and you do good!’

The accompanying music video, directed by Jude Amponsah, is full of movement and expression as we see the two musicians in the barbershop, Kwloi is in the chair mid-trim and Benjamin is exercising self-care.

The track was released via the independent label TLD Record, and will feature on his upcoming project Can I Speak, which is scheduled to drop March 20th.
