Now re-establishing himself after his last project Blue Solstice, experimenting with elements of R&B, Pop, Disco, Neo Soul, and Funk he once again proves his creativity with ‘Rhodes’. The singer/songwriter's newest single is smooth and serene, inspired by the famous Rhodes piano which is no surprise to those closest to him as the Londoner grew up in a house full of Gospel and Jazz.
The track is all about Kwaku desire to hold on to a past relationship during the aftermath of the breakup and not being able to move on. He’s all melancholy and in his feelings as he is “sick and tired” of dating other people whilst also coming to the conclusion that him and his old flame are fated.
Directed and edited by the artist himself, the visuals show off artistry shots of an ordinary day in London and a couple walking around in no rush that enjoys it. The couple seems to be in their own little bubble as they relax in Hyde park and a variety of other locations in London.
‘Rhodes’ is made up of Indie and Jazz elements such as an electric guitar undercurrent playing, a saxophone that swings and a bass drum keeping the beat steady. But most importantly Kwaku who can best be described as an old soul uses his soft vocals to touch us effortlessly navigating the soundscape with a heaviness that seeps into us.
Kwaku has co-signs from Jamz Supernova, Soulection, Afropunk and has opened up for Samm Henshaw on his tour this year.
Selling out his last headline show at the Jazz Café, it isn’t a surprise why the Londoner is in such high demand, and we cannot wait to see him further push his musical boundaries
