Lauded as one of the most exciting talents in the UK R&B scene, Kwaku Asante has been consistently delivering soulful classics since his inception in 2018. His latest and final release of the year 'All To Myself' sees him reunite with producer Aston Rudi (Olivia Dean, Mahalia) to create a scorcher reminiscent of summer.
‘All To Myself’ begins with a light and delicate piano lick that is used to introduce the texture of the song. The isolation of the piano intro sets the mood perfectly and helps create a warm, yet crisp backdrop.
Kwaku’s voice is soon introduced creating an extra layer, building on the warmth and depth of the track. His vocals effortlessly glide across the production, with his strong vocal control and timbre being used as the anchor and heart of the song.
Lyrically, Kwaku is opening up to his love interest and candidly declaring his desire to be with them. Just before the chorus hits, an array of extra voices is introduced when he states "Let me show you what I mean". This quickly erupts into a rich, gospel-infused choir chanting "I want you all to myself", giving his plea an added passion and meaning behind his words.
The choir continue to sprinkle their magic throughout, prolonging the intensity of his declaration. Even with the choir backdrop, Kwaku manages to keep his voice the centre of attention, not allowing himself to be drowned out.
As an independent artist, Kwaku has already managed to achieve many milestones. This includes a coveted COLORS performance, sold-out shows at venues such as Village Underground, Servant Jazz Quarters and Jazz Café, as well as coverage from the likes of Complex and Notion Magazine. With a strong catalogue of music that has amassed over 30 million streams, his next release is eagerly anticipated. Until then his fans will be more than happy to keep ‘All To Myself’ in rotation.
