Kwaku Asante stays true to himself as he touches on his romantic experiences with his signature flow of gentleness that ebbs and flows throughout all his music.
Submerging himself in feelings of regret and heartache as he reminisces on the one that got away due to his own hubris. Utilising a melancholic tone that rests against a slow-tempo beat produced by HYLNU. The soul singer laments being caught up in the “rapture” and is now left to navigate his sense of loss as his thoughts constantly return back to her.
Speaking about the song Kwaku said:” ‘Thinking of You' really delves into the feeling of regret we face when we take someone for granted so much they eventually leave and find someone better. “
Continuing he says: “It unpacks all the feelings that resurface when we see them happy, realising how much care we have for them and the longing to get them back.”
Speaking on the video Kwaku said: “To be oneself in a relationship is everyone's dream, and for us to exist on a spectrum of emotions but still be appreciated. We are constantly changing and learning daily and this could be due to an array of internal and external factors altering our moods and the way we express ourselves. We express ourselves through what we wear, through body language and I want this video to showcase that”
Directed by Cosmo Rush, the video is shot against an array of brilliant colours that fit the different characters that Kwaku impersonates. Sam Henshaw also takes on the role of a school teacher as he encourages Kwaku to open up.
And after just dropping ‘Rhodes’ and performing at the Cloud X festival, the artist has steadily built-up anticipation for his upcoming project Wanderlust.
