British musician Konyikeh captivates listeners with her distinct and velveteen vocal inflections against guitar patterns interwoven with soft percussion on her latest charming offering ‘Lie To Me’.

Sung with that tender and care that is quickly becoming know with Konyikeh, the lyrism, however, is bitter. Sbe is scornful, accept acing and vindictive, Konyikeh holds a contradiction of emotions in her quiet power – soft murmur that is seductive as it’s enticing as she explores the perspective of a women wronged by an unloyal partner.

Darkly toned, she aware of the infidelity, and cannot help but image the type of women she’s been cheated on with, before playfully imaging his death and the financial game that would occur.

Reflecting on the creation of “Lie To Me,” Konyikeh shares: “I was listening to a lot of old Latin music and admired the storytelling in those songs, which inspired me. The song is about a woman dreaming of killing her cheating husband.

At the time, I had also been watching a lot of music videos, and the storyline of Skepta and J Balvin’s ‘Nirvana’ intrigued me. I wanted to flip it to reflect a woman’s perspective. Musically, the production is heavily inspired by Cuban music.

I worked with producers Mack Jamieson and Alex Wildwood, and they really understood my vision of conveying the liveliness and joy in such music while juxtaposing it with a sad tale.”

The accompanying video, directed by Billy King, reflects the subject matter and mood of the song as a woman fantasising about taking revenge on her cheating husband.

Konyikeh has also announced that she will be performing The Great Escape First Fifty at Folklore in London on November 13th.
