“Trump just freed me, but my favourite president is on the money”
Kodak Black, who received a commutation of his prison sentence from Donald Trump, has released a new track aptly titled ‘Last Day In’ just days after his release. Can Kodak finally ‘roll in peace’?
Through his climb to the top Bill K. Kapri has amassed an impressive discography. Since his career began the 23-year-old has garnered notable mainstream success – initially gaining recognition in 2014 with his single ‘No Flockin’. His fame grew despite being at odds with the law since middle school – the latest being in 2019 when he was arrested on charges of weapons possession and sentenced to four years.
The song covers a myriad of topics, from Dragon Ball Z’s Piccolo and his love for his lawyer, to the rapper's comments on City Girl’s Yung Miami in a 2019 freestyle. In the outro Kodak even drops a bar in Creole, “Yo ta tiye m tou, tonè kraze m pap pran prizon”, basically saying if he stayed in prison it would have killed him, determined that it will truly be his last day in [prison]. The Florida rapper still faces charges of sexual misconduct (a state crime in South Carolina), which was the result of an alleged sexual assault case in 2016.
“All them hating presidents has become evident to me”
In a subsequent tweet thanking the former president for his commutation the Florida rapper wrote “I Want To Thank The President @RealDonaldTrump For His Commitment To Justice Reform And Shortening My Sentence, I Also Want To Thank Everyone For Their Support And Love. It Means More Than You Will Ever Know. I Want To Continue Giving Back, Learning And Growing.”.
