Kartell Brings French-Touch Eletronica To Orbit On 'Mars' With The Help Of Kurtis Wells

‘Mars’ is the latest offering from the French producer Kartell who works together with Kurtis Wells, to submerge us in a downtempo funky cut that embodies French-touch electronica at it’s finest - introducing the genre to a wider geographical audience

On ‘Mars’ you can hear the alternative R&B influence through the soulful crooning of Wells. The Berlin-based, Trinidadian singer breathes life into the space expertly delivering his emotive lyricism in a tender falsetto that contrasts nicely against the electronic elements.

The track at it’s heart explores the uncertainty that is carried by change and stepping into the unknown in an life of faith, whether it is love or trying new experiences.

On the track, Kartell says: “I first wrote the chords of Mars in 2016 and forgot about it. When I started working on the album with the theme of space, I found it again and this airy floating composition came back naturally.

It embodied a line between the innocence of a quest and the tension of a future at stake. Kurtis Wells was the perfect match for this track and his interpretation absolutely captures this balance.”

The accompanied visuals are through a soft lens giving an old school cinema feel, and place the protagonist on a search for meaning as he breaks is isolation and ventures out into the desert to search for proof of life.

Released after his other single ‘Space Odyssey’, ‘Mars’ is part of a larger project in the form of the Producer’s forthcoming album, ‘Everything is Here’ at the end of May.

Everything is Here’ is said to be 15-track experience that is an experimental musical exchange that is risk taking in nature, and like the glimpse we’ve already seen explores 70s rock and alternative hip-hop, R&B, soul and disco.

Speaking about the upcoming project, Kartell says ‘This album began with me asking myself, ‘OK, how did I fall in love with music in the first place?’ I started to visualise childhood memories of me listening to music in the summer and wanted to create something that worked in that scene and landscape.
