Jeshi Continues To Innovate Musically Through New Single 'Air Raid'

Photography: Francis Plummer

Multidimensional, innovative and thoughtful are some of the words that come to mind whilst listening to Jeshi’s music. His new single ‘Air Raid’ is both deft and wacky, featuring offbeat percussion and steady bass that underlines the song. Lyrically, Jeshi is at his best, as he continues to delve deep into pertinent and relatable subject matters. His new single touches on themes of imposter syndrome and life in London as a young creative.

His debut album Universal Credit is both multi-dimensional and personable to a generation of young people who feel the daily struggle of bureaucracy and the negative effects of existing in a capitalist society. Touching on issues such as addiction, lovelessness ('Generation') and friendship ('Killing Me Slowly'), Jeshi knows how to hone in on problems faced by the youth of 2023.

Explaining the making of the single, Jeshi says, “We stayed in this house in the middle of a field in Wales to work on the project and Air Raid was one of the tracks we made in that living room. We were all losing our shit, jumping around the room and playing it over and over”.

The music video was directed by previous collaborator Francis Plummer, known for his photography and work with brands including Stussy, Bonesoda and The Face:

“As soon as we made the song we wanted to have a knight getting sturdy to it and Francis just built on that for the video idea… We followed his quest through London to link me at the pub.”

In 2023 alone, the artist has wowed crowds at festivals such as Glastonbury, Latitude and The Warehouse Project’s Repercussion sessions, continuing to make his mark on the UK music scene and beyond. Showing no signs of slowing down, Jeshi is making his mark as an artist to watch for 2023.
