Jamilah Berry finally reaches her breaking point on her newest single 'Fuck It (On-1)' as she cuts from a romantic situation that is no longer benefiting her.
Still despite her decision there is hurt and heartbreak as Jamilah mourns the loss of the relationship in raw emotive undertones; whilst venting the confliction felt due to the break-up happening because of infidelity.
A follow-up to the pure neo-soul vibe of ‘Give’, her latest single is more of a risk-taking nature. 'Fuck It (On-1)' is darkly sung to reflect the lyricism and also more free-flowing in terms of Jamilah's dynamism as a vocalist, where the singer described it as a “rant in music form”.
The British-Guinean singer-songwriter also subtly pays homage to Drake’s 2010s hit ‘I’m On One’. The offering produced by Midnight, is an experimentation of elements of drill 808 drums and deeply feeling piano chords that convey a tense mood, followed by string synths.
Speaking on the track, Jamilah said: “This song really is like a ‘Merlot 2’ for me. I love trying new things and writing over a drill beat was something I’d wanted to do for awhile. I don't usually swear so much when writing but this time I genuinely thought fuck It. It was a lot of fun”.
