Jacklyn’s New EP ‘I’ll be fine…’ Will Take You Through The Journey of Love & Maturity

Hailing in from West London, singer-songwriter Jacklyn is one of the newest talents to raise the music scene. Releasing her debut EP ‘I’ll be fine…’, the musician breaks through the confinements of genres and enters her own lane with an amalgamation of soul and RnB. The project opens up with ‘You’re boring, I’m bored, a medley of pop energy, alternative angsty vocals and melodies followed by songs that highlight Jacklyn’s ability to jump into variations of sound.

Emerging from The Brit School and carving out her place in the industry, Jacklyn enhances her storytelling with captivating visuals on her social media complementing the youthful narratives woven into her tracks.  The EP is a beautiful contrast of light-hearted young innocence displayed through upbeat songs that blend so well with Jacklyn’s duality to create more emotive tracks filled with deeper lyrics, slowed-down chord progressions and velvety tones. Mixing restrained strumming patterns with a gritty chorus on ‘Tuff Love’, Jacklyn emulates strong character through her voice.

Something for younger and more mature audiences to enjoy as she tackles the challenges of love and relationships which she states are not only her own but also of others. The upbeat dance anthem has a fast tempo creating a teenage angst feel to the sound of relatable lyrics. Jacklyn attends to her writing skills with previous work collaborations including Rudimental and Giggs, to characterise an unapologetically honest experience.

Testing her limits in the short EP, she experiments with elements of alternative pop, soul and RnB genres. The backing vocals are nostalgic and catchy, the melodies are synthesised and built up in thick layers of harmonies. Jacklyn harnesses repetition in her tracks with instrumentation and mixes digital production with acoustics.

The song ‘LoveDrunk’ hears Jacklyn use metaphors to relate situations in relationships to intoxicated subconscious feelings. She draws on her knowledge and personal experiences to form a collection of dynamic beats and brilliantly contrasts this with the track ‘Someone I already love’, a soft minor ballad. Its echoing acoustics embody a vulnerable side to the singer’s accompanying tracks on the EP. A lonely journey into the risks and tribulations it takes to fall in love, Jacklyn’s vocals are potent as they underpin lower octave piano chords.

Using the title of the EP as a dramatic statement, Jacklyn foreshadows the emotional journey the songs will take listeners on. Jacklyn is the newness the industry is desperate for. Her music resembles a sound that feels timeless yet absent in the UK’s music scene. It takes you back to the relationship hurdles you faced at a younger age, devastating lows and euphoric highs. In the same listening experience, you also hear growth and the beauty of realising what is meant for you, especially noticeable on the final track ‘Someone I already love’.

This debut EP is intentional, moving and a feel-good project that many of us can resonate with. The future of Jacklyn’s music feels unpredictable, in the best way.
