Birmingham born, London based lyricist TrueMendous has just released her first single "That Don’t Mean" from her debut EP "HUH?". Having built up a name for herself, True is bringing something new to the table and takes the reign as the first female rapper to sign to High Focus Records.
True's musical journey began five years ago when she gave up her job in retail to take up busking full time. Against all odds she turned her passion into her job and would visit a different city every day, five days a week, performing seven hours a day. Reminiscent of where Hip-Hop was born, she finds comfort on the street corners where only the most real rappers can thrive.
Two years ago, everything changed after a trip to Atlanta opened her eyes to the vast musical landscape, inspired by the home of some of the world's biggest rappers she returned home and moved down to London, the main hub for music in the UK. Shortly after finding her rhythm in the capitol, True’s regular busking spots still include Oxford Street, Brixton and Brick Lane. During one of her regular performances last year on Oxford Street, she was overheard by legendary MC Ghetts who shared her skills across Instagram.
At the age of 16, during the days of Myspace, True’s interest in music was sparked by what she heard online and in the playground. Purchasing her first bit of equipment in Poundloud, she started creating tune after tune and posting low res tracks to her evergrowing following. Since then, her poetic license has been influenced by the likes of Andre 3000, Frank Ocean and Lauryn Hill.
Today see's TrueMendous releasing the visuals for the first single from her debut EP dropping very soon. This single has a very nostalgic feel to it showcasing her artistry and versatility once again, TrueMendous is proving why she is one to watch.
