Sportswear styling is in effect with the Lacoste A/W 2021-22 selection of exciting pieces. The word vibrant comes to mind when summing up the launch of the new Lacoste collection down to a tee. Amidst our pandemic way of living as the new norm, nothing beats fun, vibrant, eye-catching with enthralling arty comic references in easy-to-wear clothing that provides character and culture to the story of the collection portrayed.
Designed by Creative Director Louise Trotter, we witness the intersection between luxury and athleisure, which the Lacoste brand show well with buzzing excitement. Since the design of this collection during the lockdown, Trotter had the vision to "capture the active lifestyle that we share today and that blurs between home life, work, and play", she explains.
Among her design playbook, Trotter sets out to create an offering of vivid shades combined with soft neutrals in exciting, trendsetting cardigans and easy-going pique tracksuits paired up with sliders in various colours such as red, green, white and blues. The collection also included the renowned brand pique cotton, zestful hued polos with the signature croc emblem bigger than ever. Tucked away in Lacoste archived treasure trove was the detailed comic findings like the large croc claws and the flame tennis ball patches that gave the collection a fun feeling and at the same time representing the sporting career of the founder Rene Lacoste who was a tennis champion.
Displayed highlights of L-shaped logo branding indented into the striking American style varsity jackets alongside fresh-looking puffers, comfy jogging pants, extensive rucksacks, and windbreakers. Constructed tailoring on show in trenches and overcoats portraying a throwback to the legacy of founder Rene Lacoste who put comfort first in his clothing and sheer elegance. Within this collection, Trotter has also incorporated some handmade pieces by utilising the same upcycled process implemented in her previous SS21 collection. Nevertheless, Trotter chose to carry on the same fluidity.
Following from the SS21 season, the launch of Lacoste latest collection speaks smart-casual with humour combined in a representation of sports styling montage. Details used of vintage fabrics from Lacoste archive of inspirational heritage injected into a vibrant selection of upcycle clothing, creating shapes and playing with proportions like enlarged checkerboard jacket collars. In this collection, we get to see the show-stopping performance of talent behind Louise Trotter’s creative vision and a glimpse of her well-dressed sense of styling and character.
The sportswear-inspired trend was the star player in this new collection. Shot by photographer Sam Rock as he captured his images against the prominent setting of Paris, near the Front de Seine in the 15th district with the impressive architectural monuments in the background scenery.
Various shapes among the backdrop from bricks, multiple tiles, glass, even wall textures, and concrete structures played a role in bringing this striking collection to life, but more importantly, representing a new contemporary look to sportswear and establishing a sweet sense of inspiration right out of the Lacoste archive treasure trove.
