Hyzah Ventures 'To The World' And Back On Debut Project

Emerging Afrobeat artist Hyzah, brings us into a world of emotion and colour, warm hues transcend the space in his debut EP To The World. It’s subversive, and as if like a soft sofa we sink into the project without any resistance.

Hyzah first came to attention in 2017 but has waited until now to release a body of work. Taken in as an expression of the diversity of Nigerian youth, the project only consists of 6 tracks, In the opening ‘Jalo’ Hyaz croons melodies softly against the minimalistic production. Embodying the sensuous and delicate act of falling in love.

Unabashed he pleads for his love interest on the pure afro-beat feeling of ‘Samantha’ with a transparent vulnerability before transitioning into ‘This and That’.

The slow jam ‘This and That’ is one of the standout tracks out of the entire project. Constructed from soft guitar rifts played underneath percussion Hyaz sings soulfully, demonstrating shades of R&B as he serenades his love interest.

The lead single ‘Skinny Love’ carries on the venture into this fusion sound of Afro-R&B, a bit more upbeat and bouncier Hyzah showcases his charisma and playfulness before being led out with an improv instrumentational solo.

Coming near the end of the project, the uptempo ‘Ibadi’ is energetic as it is pushed by the drums, signalling a return to a pure African sound.

Before concluding with the expressive ‘African Beauty’, a summing up of the project, we hear the sound of a saxophone drift in and out as Hyzah finds space in the pockets fluidly transitioning into melody and rap verse.

He dedicates this last track on the project to African women praising their beauty and grace with admiration finding them incomparable.

Speaking on the project Hyzah says I feel so excited about this EP, and it a big blessing for me to drop this project. I’ve been waiting for this moment for over 2 years and the feelings is just different. I can't wait to share this with my friends, family, and my die-hard fans.”

The project as a whole Is steeped in the culture of inner-city Lagos, you cannot help but hear the sounds of the Yorbua music known as Apala, as well as R&B, Trapsoul, Jazz and early 90’s Afrobeats which is evident throughout the project.

Receiving an early co-sign from the likes of Burna Boy, this bright but early EP is a signal of the crossover appeal and potential of Hyzah.
