How To Plan A Movie Themed Party

Are you planning a movie themed party for the film fan in your life? To create the perfect celebration, here are some top tips to help you roll out the red carpet and shine the spotlight on the main character. 

Set the scene

Before you can be creative, you’ll need to cover the basics. Get your invite list sorted and tell them the date of the party. Make sure they’re given as much notice as possible so that you can be sure there will be an audience for this big event. 

If this is going to be a significant celebration, see if you can rope in someone to help out. You could put your ideas to everyone in the family WhatsApp chat or have a catch up with the star of the show’s friends to get an idea of what to include. It’s often easier to manage if you have others on hand to help with the planning and prep. 

Choose the movie theme

You might want to go for a general movie theme, complete with clapperboards and cameras as props. Alternatively, you could base everything on their favourite film of all time, which could mean anything from dinosaurs for the Jurassic Park fan to can-can dancers and feathers if they adore Moulin Rouge.

Now you know how you’re going to approach the theme, you can go to town on the decorations. Whether you’re having a small get-together or hiring a venue, you can plan everything from wall art and balloons to any props you might want to introduce.

A-list attire

To make this extra-special, you could go for a dress code. If your friends and family love nothing more than fancy dress, this could be the perfect opportunity to get everyone to dress up so they could easily blend in with the movie you’ve based the party theme on.  

Alternatively, you could request that everyone dress as though they’re heading to the Oscars. Black tie, glamourous gowns and all the sparkle could really elevate this event. 

Movie games 

For some movie magic, how about some themed games? If you’re going to have movies playing during the party, you could create some quizzes based on the films you’ll be showing to test everyone’s knowledge.

If you love to perform, you could even have some acting sessions where guests could try out some of the most famous lines and scenes. As well as sticking to the theme, you might want to add in some other activities like board games or online versions of casino games such as roulette. 

Popcorn time

Don’t forget to feed your guests. As well as buckets of popcorn, you could serve up some easy snacks like sliders, nachos, crisps, plus ice cream and doughnuts. To make things perfect, go for a movie-themed cake for the guest of honour.
