"HAPPENS" Brings Together Two Swedish Women, LUCIIA and Sabina Ddumba

It’s rare to find a moment that feels both intimate and revolutionary in the same breath. Enter, LUCIIA the Grammy nominated R&B/Soul singer with Cuban roots, and Sabina Ddumba, whose Ugandan heritage and gospel-infused soul shape her sound, united in their shared home of Sweden. Combined together you have 'HAPPENS’ a conversation, a dialogue between two women navigating the music industry, it’s a powerful testament to female solidarity.

This is not about competition or rivalry,

but rather a discussion about what they’ve encountered in the industry.

Produced in London by the talented Maleík Loveridge—known for his work with the likes of Jess Glynne and Stormzy—the song combines their unique perspectives, resulting in a song that feels deeply personal yet universally relatable.

This collaboration is a major moment for LUCIIA, as it's her first time teaming up with another Swedish female artist. She and Sabina were recently seen on TV4 Nyhetsmorgon in Sweden, discussing the significance of the song and the impact of its message.

“We wanted to invite the listener into an intimate conversation between two Black, female, independent artists. We intentionally made the song conversational rather than just taking turns with verses. The core of this story is really about stepping back and being okay with life not turning out the way we once imagined. It’s also about sisterhood and having someone to share these experiences with. In the end, we’re not alone”.

"I love LUCIIA, and 'HAPPENS' feels like a win-win. The song is the result of a conversation where we talked about life, and I want people to create their own interpretation of the song. The process itself means so much to me—we really connected during the creation, and it came from an authentic place. That’s why it turned out so great." Sabina adds.

LUCIIA’s manager notes “The song might bring to mind Brandy & Monica's "The Boy Is Mine," but unlike that rivalry, LUCIIA and Sabina choose to uplift and support one another."

‘HAPPENS’ has been receiving support all over Scandinavia - earning it's place on several editorial playlists including - Made in Sweden, New Music Friday Norway, Denmark, Suomi, R&B Rising and many more. Recently featured in Dagens Nyheter, the track has also led to interviews for both artists on NRKP3 Norway and Din Gata Play Radio.

Last week, LUCIIA performed at the Bylarm Festival in Oslo, Norway, following a recent appearance at Way Out West. During her set, she gave the audience a sneak peek of 'HAPPENS'. The previous summer, LUCIIA opened for Coldplay at four sold-out shows at ULLEVI Stadium, where Chris Martin invited her on stage to perform her favorite song, "Magic."

LUCIIA has been celebrated by a diverse group of influential figures, from Timbaland to tastemakers such as DJ Ace on BBC 1Xtra, Rebecca Judd on Apple, Ellie Prohan at KISS FM, Per Sinding on SVT, Etti on P3 Radio, Marius at YLTV, Jordss at Rinse FM, and Rellik Da Don at Reprezent Radio.

Her journey and growth has been closely followed, powered by her exceptional talent and the invaluable support of her manager, Wilhelmina.

The 90s R&B, the gentle instrumentation and percussion put the focus on the vocals and storytelling. In contrast to much of today’s music, LUCIIA and Sabina Ddumba highlight themes of positivity and mutual support with 'HAPPENS'.

I dropped LUCIIA a few quick fire questions to close;

How do you want the song to make people feel?

“While listening to the song I want people to feel free ,

I want them to feel that Shit happens and don't stress about anything.

I want them to feel safe, and understand that we all are humans and go through the same things.”

What are your essentials when going to the studio?

“3 Musts ( Vitamin well ( Elevated) LOVE

Madaboutthevocals tube to warm up voice

and snacks, I always eat a hotdog when I’m in the studio. That's a must.”

And your future plans, tell us what we can expect?

“My future plans is creating new music collab with other artist, find a balance between normal work and music career. Move to the states ( a dream ) learn more about my self and be the best version I could be.”

The official music video for ‘HAPPEN’ dropped today.
