GRAMMY Award-winning superstar Alessia Cara unveils a new single entitled “Slow Motion”, a single taken from her upcoming album Love & Hyperbole, which will be released on February 14th, 2025. Produced by Mike Elizondo and Jake Gosling, "Slow Motion" follows the release “(Isn’t It) Obvious,” which has already generated millions of streams across all platforms. Cara's upcoming record Love & Hyperbole is the next chapter for her artistic growth, where she once more displays her songwriting abilities, powerful vocals, and talented artistry. Love & Hyperbole follows her 2021 album In The Meantime, which featured notable singles such as 'Best Days' and 'Shapeshifter'. Her narrative-like style of delivery is perfect for this record, which explores navigating the journey from isolation and passivity to experiencing open minded connection.
Since releasing the anthem for introverts “Here” in 2015, Canadian-born artist Alessia Cara has grown with her listeners, capturing the highs and lows of adolescence and young adulthood with a quality of relatable storytelling that has kept fans waiting for more with each release. “Here,” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to sell three million copies. Her platinum-selling debut album, Know-It-All, delivered another smash hit with “Scars to Your Beautiful” and she also made a notable contribution to “How Far I’ll Go” on the Moana soundtrack. “Stay,” a high energy club collaboration with Zedd saw her gain more listeners, along with her powerful feature on Logic’s “1-800-273-8255.” The Brampton, Ontario, native's 2018 album The Pains of Growing, won a Juno Award for Best Album, as well as Cara winning Songwriter of the Year, cementing her as one of her generation’s foremost singer/songwriters. Her last album, In The Meantime was met with praise, and dubbed “Incisive and introspective as ever." Now on her fourth record, Cara is back and ready to continue her journey, encapsulating so many with her gifted pen and powerful voice that evokes so much emotion from her listener.
“For a long time I felt so lost and closed-off, to the point where I didn’t want to go outside,” says Alessia. “It’s me asking how I can ever be happy if I can’t even bring myself to be out in the world.”
"Dead Man", the first single that was unveiled from the unreleased Love & Hyperbole back in July 2024, was co-written by Cara and Elizondo, and reminisced upon the past relationships that made an undeniable effect upon Cara's heart, and included a horn section with trombonist Roy Agee, who was a long time member of Prince's live band.
“I feel like I’ve learned a lot from dealing with situations where the other person wasn’t capable of giving their full self,” Cara says of "Dead Man"
Love & Hyperbole sees Cara reminiscing and considering her past and future, from the honeymoon-like infatuation of new love, as seen on 'Slow Motion', to the agonising anxiety that often comes along with falling in love and about “worrying if the person I love is going to leave me, because I’m not used to things being so good in a relationship,"
"I see everything in slow motion," like a movie scene,' Cara sings. Strings infused with drums and a steady guitar riff set the scene for Cara to let her voice soar on the song. "All the heavens suddenly open, Hear the angels sing,"
Cara speaks of the concept of time slowing down once love becomes a reality. '"I'm missing you before you even leave, wishing there were more days in the week,'" The track encapsulates the feeling of feeling o strongly for someone that life without their presence is unbearable. The end of the chorus sees Cara putting all her hopes into this time bending love. "No one gets through to me quite like you do, so I'ma bet it all on you,"
Reflecting on the rest of Love & Hyperbole, Alessia notes that the album served as a major turning point in solidifying her identity as an artist. “Every project so far has felt like a step in the right direction, but this album felt more like a leap,” she says.
"The whole reason I started making music was that I didn’t always feel seen in my own life, so it’s really touching to know that expressing myself might help someone else feel understood. That’s always the goal with my music: to create something very specific and personal to me but also open enough so that everyone can see themselves in my songs.”
