GOOMHEO's characteristic eye designs make a comeback this season as slashes on thigh-baring shorts and micro-miniskirts, revealing bold peeks of hipbones and butt cheeks, as well as on leather belts. They speak to the basic GOOMHEO idea of celebrating eccentricity, with open-backed halter neck knits and tops that are unintentionally wrapped around the torso.
Goom Heo grew up in Jinju, South Korea, moving to London in 2011 to enrol on Central Saint Martins’ Art Foundation, before progressing onto the school’s BA Fashion Design with Print. For her 2017 graduate collection, she received L’Oréal Young Talent Award, duplicating her success in 2019 upon her graduation from the school’s MA, when she received the L’Oréal Professionnel Creative Award. Her collection is stocked at MACHINE-A.
The misty darkness of last season lingers in GOOMHEO's fourth Fashion East collection. Here, however, a fear of what lurks in the darkness gives way to an urge to connect with it. Trepidation gives way to a wholehearted embrace of the unexpected, the eerie, the weird. Chaos turns into a source of solace.
Nakedness is explored as both a source of rebellion and the most natural, comfortable human state, with barely-there chain tops and swirl-slashed trousers flaunting the body with an almost exhibitionist flare. Tight wraps and drapes are used to explore similar contrasts and tensions. You can buy GOOMHEO here.
