Upholding a cool and calm aura as we spoke quite casually on his birthday, 22 year old Nigerian born rapper Archy Moor is truly a breath of fresh air, while in conversation we discussed his stunning debut EP ‘Bonnie Hill’. Despite only launching his career in 2019, Archy Moor has exhibited a raw talent that hasn’t gone unmissed, earning him a plethora of opportunities like working closely with some of the most talented producers in music including Earl Saga (Loyle Carner & Slow Thai) and Nick Mills (Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar).
Reflecting on his teenage years Archy Moor always knew he wanted to become a musician and has done everything to achieve that with his pure and natural talent, ‘I’ve always wanted to make music, around the age of 16/17, I would sneak off to the studio music without telling my Ma’. A truly passionate individual from the very beginning, Archy added that other than his music, family is something that is really important to him, ‘Initially I was sceptical about telling my Ma about pursuing a career as a musician, one because I value her opinion so highly and two because I come from a traditional Nigerian home and I wasn’t sure about how she would take it. Surprisingly she was so unboard and has been so supportive, to the point she’ll even give me tips on the production of some of my songs’.
Despite being a slick wordsmith who writes all of his own music and delivering a crisp musical delivery, Archy Moor expressed that genres like Rap and Hip Hop were never a huge part of his life while he was growing up, ‘Surprisingly, I didn’t listen Rap or Hip Hop in the years where I first started to explore music, I actually listened to a lot of rock, pop and anything that was playing in the charts’. Regardless of his musical influences, Archy clearly has an eclectic taste in music, however the Irish musician revealed that he’d like to delve into producing and creative direction, ‘When filming the music video for my single “I’ve been”, I was very hands on, I shot it myself and I wrote the track, I guess I could even call myself and executive producer’.
If you haven’t seen the impressive self shot visuals of “I’ve Been” then I urge you check them out as Archy joined forces with producer Earl Saga, since their initial meeting the two have grown a wholesome friendship that goes beyond just music, ‘Connecting with Earl was mad, as we initially met over zoom during lockdown, after just 4 months of knowing each other we flew to Japan. Earl and I both had the same ideas, so everything we created felt so natural, when we were out in Japan it just made sense to film the music video for “I’ve Been” as the vibe felt so right’. Apart from the impressive visuals, “I’ve Been” combines Earl Saga’s organic production with Archy’s wholesome lyrical delivery, the track was also recorded around the time of their Korea trip. “Tough days fall, but we’re always gonna shine” are lyrics taken from the single further supporting the wholesome individual Archy is, when discussing the other track’s on Bonnie Hill, Archy was simply inspired by conversations, experiences and people.
Not only has Archy Moor kicked off the new year with his debut EP “Bonnie Hill '', but he has also blessed fans and tastemakers with the visuals to lead single “Pray My Ma”, which was also shot during his trip with Japan alongside Earl Saga. “Everything I do, I do it for my Mother right, she can pray for me so I pray we see a better side”, While wearing his heart on his sleeve “Pray My Ma'' is a self explanatory track that is dedicated to Archy Moor’s Mother, as he thanks her for everything she has achieved as a parent throughout his life, ‘ I’m really close with my family, my Ma especially, I just love the energy between us when we’re together, she’s always been really supportive’.
Teaming up with the likes of Earl Saga, Nick Mills and MIKEWAVVS at this early stage of his career, set the tone for a promising future ahead. Archy Moor is an individual who has ambitions of connecting and collaborating with a wide variety of creatives, “I love where I’m at right now and how well my music is being received. If I could collaborate with any other producer or musician it would have to be iconic producer The Alchemist or singer Joyce Wrice, she’s got amazing vocals!”.
Archy Moor has seamlessly entered the music scene with his natural and raw talent, 2023 is looking like a promising year for the multifaceted musician.
