Get To Know: Nikhil Beats

With his most recent single 'Thrills' featuring wordsmith Kieron Boothe, producer and instrumentalist Nikhil Beats has been making waves within the underground London music scene including intricate production and broad versatility with a plethora of musicians. Having previously collaborated with DIVINEANGEL, KeepVibesNear, Safiyyah, Finn Foxell, Danny Sanchez, Xadi and more, we're back with another instalment of Get To Know with this up-and-coming vibe-creator.

Hailing from East London, Nikhil Beats has always been surrounded by music since he was a child, to the point where it was only natural for him to pursue it as a career. Illustrating his own unique style of sound which stands as a combination of hip-hop, R&B, jazz as well as cultural references from his British-Asian heritage, he strives to leave his own stamp within the industry. As he's gained momentum within the past year, he mentions it came as a shock when he would introduce himself to people and they already knew who he was. In terms of his recent collaborations, it doesn't come as a surprise that he's making a name for himself as his tracks surpass tens of thousands of streams and he's been praised constantly with his refined and consistent sound.

Nikhil Beats' 2021 EP 3000 Realms came into view as an honouring to all the extraordinary artists that he had met over the years. As he's previously noted how he wanted to showcase the vast diversity of the London music scene, 3000 Realms is a glimpse into the many ways people express their creativity through music. But like with any other producer, his creative process is "sometimes chaos, sometimes calm." With his music a direct reflection of himself, he discloses that "It doesn't really make sense until it does". His most notable production credits come upon the effortlessly smooth 'Days Like This' as well as the neo-soul induced 'AFFIRMATION' or the dance-inspired 'Duro' to name a few.

Following his multifaceted sound, Don Toliver, Drake and Cleo Sol are the first musicians that come to mind in terms of future collaborations and his work represents that. But he when asked about his biggest influence, he tells us "I dunno if I could pin it down to just one person, but my sister has always been a pretty big influence in my life. She's always been quite inspiring and brave."

With his second EP on the way, Nikhil Beats has been aiming to produce a project that can again reflect his never-ending learning process in the musical world. "My unreleased 2nd EP is something I'm really proud of and I don’t often feel that way about my work before it released," he tells us. But reminiscent of all the work he produces, he makes every effort to stray away from conventional production styles.

"Don’t try to cater to other people. Be yourself and people will respect it and want more of it (this is advice I need to hear too. It never gets old)"
